Here I am at 4:30 am on a Wednesday morning pondering life and regrets. The conversation started last night while chatting with my eldest son and picked back up at 3:30 am this morning; 3:30 for me that is.

I know I’m not the only one that has regrets in her life. As I told him, the main reason we have regrets are because of choices we have made throughout our lives. Another reason is because we are not fulfilling our purpose here on Earth.

We are all given one life to live and it’s up to us how we will live that life. I get it, as a child, we don’t have quite as many choices but once we reach a certain age, we are granted more choices. Even as a child, we chose if we were going to listen to our parents and not touch the hot stove. With each choice we make, there will be consequences.

As a former drug addict and alcoholic, I made many wrong choices and lived much of my life with regrets. I won’t blame it all on my addictions, even since being delivered of those vices, I have still made poor choices. Much of the time, when we are making a choice, we think it’s the right thing at the time. I don’t believe most of us set out to make poor choices, perhaps we just don’t take the time to think of the consequences and we make rash decisions. I know I have made plenty of rash decisions, which then brought regrets and pain.

Let’s take this to another level. When we make a choice, it has a domino effect. Our choices will ALWAYS have an impact on someone else’s life. I know the choices I have made have impacted my sons lives. My choices set their lives on a path that may not have necessarily been the path God had in mind for them. My choices may or may not influence the choices they make today. I know several of the choices I have made were influenced by my parents choices. I’m not blaming my parents for my choices, they did the best they knew to do. But I can guarantee you, their choices influenced my choices. It’s just a fact of life.

But the beauty of life is this: if we are still breathing, we have the CHOICE to CHOOSE to make the right CHOICE! We get to choose to pray, think, ponder and seek counsel before making another decision. We must remember, this next choice I make will impact someone else’s life. It’s not all about me. How will my next decision/choice influence someone else?

It’s never too late to fulfill our God-given purpose here on Earth; as long as we still have breath in our bodies. Give up the regrets! I have. Do I still sometimes wish I hadn’t made a certain choice? Of course I do. But when that regret tries to come on me, I think of the lesson I learned and focus on it instead. Don’t wait another minute. Start living YOUR life today, right now! After all, you only have one life to live, make the best of it.
